If true, an unfolding and interesting story about the consequences of a fake degree:
merry christmas to all. goodwill to all men and that
Some places check. Some don't.
Have the sense to find out in advance is the motto of this story.
Either that, or get a job that doesn't require a degree.
The poster said the powers that be knew the degree was fake but still decided to issue a W/P and T/L? The poster said that the guy was fired from his job for having a moody cert. and now he has to leave Thailand and can't come back for 2 years?
There are holes in that story you could put an aircraft carrier through.......
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no Interior Minister of Thailand's son.
^starting with "the poster said"
A friend of mine who has just been issued a work permit and teacher's licence from MOE, has just been dismissed from their job for having an 'unverifiable' degree. MOE said they knew the degree was fake but still decided to issue the WP and TL. Has until January to leave Thailand and is prohibited from returning for 2 years. Has a family here and has been teaching in Thailand for over 6 years.
I think if Thailand decides to get serious that they will find many many teachers working here are in a similiar boat with regard to 'unverifiable' degrees. Certainly once you get into the bi-lingual and govt schools I think they will be shocked at the amount of Kao Sahn Degree Holders. What proffesional acredited teacher is going to work for what a pimply 15 yr old gets back home working at McDonalds PART-TIME !
I worked at a well paying bi-lingual school - over 50 k, and I recall that at the time over 90 % had 'manufactured' Degrees.
Will Thailand pay what they need to attract qualified profesionals - I suspect not !!!
What is the option for those in a situation like my friend ? - I hope you have some savings ready to try and get visas and airfares for your family at short notice !!"
Just because a lot of people do it, doesn't make it right. I think it's a form of freud. In civilized countries, it takes a lot to become a teacher. In the begining of my degree, I went for an education degree, there were things to do like taking tests, and pass the CLASS exam and getting a degree. I think it's only fair that someone should be qualified before they can teach.
I mean a lot of people are saying that the pay sucks and it's not worthy of a degree. But that's not the point, Thai people don't make that much money. But if you take the law of supply, when there's demand but not enough supply, price will go up.
Getting rid of tons of unqualified teachers, will only mean being a qualified teacher will get more money. They will have to raise the price to get teachers.
not to mention all those disrupted happy families. wonderful sentiment.
Well the old new rules were that the school had to sign off on it and they'd be held just as punishable as the person holding it.
But the MoE don't/won't issue TLs if they know it's a fake....I know a chap that was knocked back before with a dodgy one....nothing happened bit he didn't get the TL that's for sure.
Seems to be bullshit going by the 'story' Trust old SJCG to get sucked in though but misery does love company
Riddle me this brother can you handle it
Your style to my style you can't hold a candle to it

It's not how you play the game it's how you win it
I cheat and steal and sin and I'm a cynic
Sorry, I'm rather a simple guy. Is that post in support of his sacked mate and unverifiable degree-holders, or against such scum because they lower the wages of "qualified" teachers?
Hard to tell mate...but then it is a form of Freud don't you know...possibly Emma, she was fit A Fraudian slip methinks!!!
I forgot to mention that I feel really sad for those families whose daddies have to leave the country.
You're a lovely chap...although it might be worth worrying about the tax payers in the countries the dad's are having to return to as they'll be supporting his 'Thai' family soon enough....funny huh???
This fact came from their volunteering the information? Or did you pretend to be their friend, get their confidence, then extract the information?I worked at a well paying bi-lingual school - over 50 k, and I recall that at the time over 90 % had 'manufactured' Degrees.

That's what "if" does, Ken.
At the same time, SJCG did manage to get your attention.
So who really got sucked in here, old chap?
The story is true.
And Ken, he really got his TL and WP just 2 or 3 days before.
To the others, I wouldn't describe him as a scumbag, rather as a good teacher who tried hard to get those spoiled brats to learn something.
We're talking here about a nice Christmas present from Christmas school. I can't name it here but it's not the one where the Carr guy got arrested but has otherwise a lot to do with Christmas.
