Living in the Grim Mainland means I have no access to sites like the BBC and sometimes The Guardian. I can get the Beeb via a site like Anonymouse but it's inconvenient.
How do I set up a proxy so i can get any site I want?
I tried to set one up before but it wouldn't work.

You do nt want a proxy server. What you need is to access a proxy server. It is quite easy to set up one in Firefox. In the options, click on connections and add in a proxy server you can find online, but they come and go so often.
If you had a good friend outside of the China with a little technical expertise, running Linux, and a decent connection, you could have them set up a proxy server for you, SQUID is the best one out there.

But that is about setting up your computer as a proxy client, not a proxy server. I am managing a network of 40+ computers running Windows Xp accessing the net through a Squid Proxy Server. Squid is the best proxy server, bar none.
