UK Settlement Visa Interview

Hi all, It's been a while since I last ajarned, but it's good to be back. My wife is going for her UK Settlement Visa interview in a couple of weeks, and it would be really helpful if we could get a few 'heads ups' on the kind of questions that she's going to be asked. Also, and if she's successful, how long does it take for the visa to be granted after the interview? Thanks in advance, CG.

That link is more about the documentation process rather than the interview process which we didn't have to go through. I remember seeing some typical questions on Thai Visa or Thailand-UK.

Well my experience of this was my wife (now ex) was told she married me for the visa! (not in thailand) and was basically a ho (the visa was rejected along with all the other 21 gals that morning) and some of those ended up divorcing as well. I appealed and was told that I didn't have any money left as I must have spent it on such a big wedding (videoed and submitted with app) AND the second reason? It was a fake wedding.... go figure that crap. i won after 2 years of fighting but that ruined my pre-teaching career. My ex had a degree etc by the way and a long history of working and wealthy parents A friend in Thailand married a Muslim Thai and she with a good banking job and her head scalf was accused of all sorts just for a tourist visa! She came out crying as well totally disgusted with uk imi British imi are a bunch of neo-fascists in my opinion. It does seem to be a matter of luck though as some have no problem whereas I have met many who had serious problems. The official who deals with you case is "God" so it is up to them - maybe they have limits of the number of approvals? Stories like this are common although Kan and I never had any problems obtaining visas whether they be tourist visas or settlement, although my wife is very well educated and prepared our documentation meticulously. By the time our settlement application came round we'd been married nearly 6 years, had a British passport holding daughter, and had enough cash in the bank. Even so we bricked it for nearly a week....given what was at stake (a paid for flat in the UK, 500 quid, and a huge effort gone into collecting evidence and preparing the file. My hands were shaking as I opened the envelope containing the passport. It was a huge relief to see my wife's face on that UK visa. I found the UK visa centre to be thoroughly professional, though it's the embassy that does the interviewing....and they only do that if they're not convinced with the initial application. They turned ours around in 48 hours with no further questions. Those questions are pretty rough, but perhaps if you consider the number of chancers they have to face, plus a directness of questioning that Thais may be unused to, they are perhaps seen as neccessary to cut back on human trafficking. My Mrs has a 10 year visa - easy peasy. I guess it comes down to how much they consider the applicant a flight risk (for visit visas). Theyve got to have somthing to come back to IE house, position etc. That said, Ive seen 'well educated' Thais turned down for visit visas for the very same reason - they could likely do OK in the UK if they decided to run and they have relatively little to make them return to Thailand (the 500 quid a month job doesnt cut it) As for settlement visa - Id imagine its relatively simple when the applicant can financially support themselves and he/she and their partner isnt a strain on the welfare system. Its all just economics.

Anecdotes above for good Thai women being turned down. But let me tell you there are a fair few rough old bints who do get in as well [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/images/smilies/wink.gif] so obviously being an ex ho or uneducated young gold digger married to an old git isn't necessarily a bar to UK immigration [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/images/smilies/tounge.gif] How that works though, I don't know. I could empathise with Louis being nervous but I was thinking no way would his wife get turned down, given all the info he'd shared about her.
