House/2 bdr that's close to BTS?

Hi everyone, Haven't posted again for a while because things have been busy here in China. My roomate and I are flying into Bangkok on Tuesday, and will be doing job interviews and such for a couple of days after that. We're looking for either a multi-room house near any bts line, or a 2 bedroom place as centrally located as possible. Since there are two of us we can afford to pay a little bit more, and I make some money outside of teaching, but not much. If we could stay under 10k a month for a 2 bedroom or even some of these great deals I've seen on houses (townhouses are fine too), that would be ideal. So . . . I've got considerably more lined up job/interview wise than him because he just decided last week to come but we'll both definitely be hitting the pavement hard. I've been in China for 2 years, 1 year in South Korea, 4 years previously in Bangkok and 3 doing the call center thing in India. He's been here in China for a year, and I think 4 years before that in Taipei. Both degreed. Both holding tefl certifications, and having the visas in our passports to validate our work history. Any leads on either apartments/houses or if somebody just wants to throw a job referral out via pm because they don't want to work with someone who's shifts they're going to have to be covering all the time will be seriously appreciated!

I don't think visas in your work permit are going to be considered as evidence of your work history, good or otherwise. You might want to sort out some reliable referees or letters of reference/recommendation if you think it would be valuable. On your stated budget, try anywhere around the end of the BTS lines. It won't be central but it won't be too remote. Good luck.

And for sure on that budget with a house do not expect to walk to the BTS station. You will be on a motorcycle. I wish you luck, as a two bedroom apartment at that price is impossible. And other than erics deals near Onut I have not seen a thing in your price range for a long long time. Best of luck.

We have a sweetheart deal now on a 2.5 bedroom townhouse near Sathorn at 12,000/month. They do exist but are damn hard to find. The only reason we got this one was because of the assistance of a neighbor/friend who has lived in the area for decades. I agree with AO. You'll need some seriously good luck to find what you are looking for in your price range. Particularly if you need any extras like parking, security, a safe neighborhood, veranda for growing plants, kitchen, clean, good quality furniture, etc. etc. etc.

I live in a great one-bedroom place for just 4,600 per month. Central location, too. Damn shame they won't just connect some of the rooms into two-bedroom apartments. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two balconies would be sweet.

Call Charlee on 02 862-0056 to look at his house in Khlong San, Thonburi. He has a guesthouse there but he also owns a great house only 50 metres down the best soi in all of BKK, located only a 3 minute walk from Wong Wian Yai BTS. Three bedroom, two storey, shophouse style, basically furnished for only 8,000 baht per month. The neighbourhood is fantastic and Charlee, Thailand's leading watercolour artist, is the best landlord in the entire world, I kid you not. I just moved out of the house two weeks ago to move to Myanmar, so it should still be vacant. Hi, Thanks for the info everyone. Definitely appreciate it. About the visa's - I didn't mean to suggest that those alone were proper evidence of work experience, but . . . Reference letters are pretty easy to knock up and in my experience most employers in Asia (have worked in China, South Korea, India and Thailand) don't phone someone up, generally. It doesn't add up. Dishonest teachers make life harder for the rest of us.

I think he means that it would be easy to fake a letter from XYZ school in Korea even if you have never been there before, so his stamps prove that he has been in those countries...... or something along those lines.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I am about 34 now, approaching morbid obesity and heinous tooth decay, and not a handsome young dude these days, so I always try to do as much as I can to stand out from the blond, guitar playing crowds. Original diploma, original transcripts on the universities security paper, original letters from the registrar/bursar, etc. Like I said, the thing about the visa stamps was just mentioned in passing, or as me sort of thinking out loud. It probably sounds like overkill, but in a clench I'd rather have more than less I suppose. I'm only ever dishonest these days when it comes to agreeing with Chinese people that "Chinese people are very kind!". j
