Shame time. This thread is a warning to all parents who have kids. DO NOT let these doctors treat your kids.
The first up: "Doctor" L**** L************* of Pyathai 3. She's the "doctor" that's about fifty-something and still wears a pink miniskirt. That should have been my first warning. I brought my kids to her only for her to rape my wallet. One of my kids just threw up in the morning -- but he'd digested everything since last night so he really wasn't throwing up anything except bile (later on)! He didn't have a fever -- just the usual stuffy nose and cough prior to this. So what was our good (read: fucked up) doctor's prognosis? That he has to be admitted. Well fucking wait -- my kid was uninsured, so no fucking thank you. So next she prescribes a shot for him so that he stops puking. I thought a little bit, and decided well -- we probably should.
Then I asked her "Well, what MIGHT be causing his puking?" and she was liek "I don't know". There was a few seconds of silence between me, my wife, our kids and the fuckhead who thinks she's a doctor. THANK YOU. Oh yes, I will admit my son to some fucktard that couldn't even give a calculated guess -- FUCKING NOT!!
Disappointed that she couldn't fucking rake us with our first child, my littler one was next. It was his "check-up" and he'd been to this same doctor five days prior. This was supposed to be a check up. The verdict? The little guy had to get his lungs sucked out. Yep. Nevermind that he probably just needed a change of antibiotics... which I didn't really feel like giving him anyways. No -- he had to get his lungs sucked out by the fucks at the 'Physical Therapy' ward. Why? Because they couldn't fucking make money off my other kid that's why!
So at the PT ward (more liek Physical TORTURE... as well as MENTAL torture for me watching it all) the nurses proceed to stuff small tubes down my baby's nose to suck out all the snot. THEN they try to stuff it down his mouth ~! Yes, brilliant -- unfortunately not as brilliant as my son was -- he just kept biting the tube, so they couldn't get it through. They did twice -- and made him puke. Fuckin' right. All we needed to do to make him puke was to give him his normal milk at home, if that's what they wanted! And though they claim "oh... its got all his snot in it and that's good" -- I didn't see it -- and I KNOW what to look for because I've done it before.
So then I get the bill --- yep. 500 baht for them to pat my son's back, and over a thousand baht of obscure 'medication' and 'equipment'. OH yes -- which reminds me -- at the PT room the fuckers were HITTING yes -- HITTING the little piece of shit of a box that was supposed to be a suction thingy. It wasn't working. But I'm sure if they hit it enough it would work. And yes -- this must have been one of those fucking things I was paying for. After insurance (on my second child) we still have to pay over THB2,000 baht for a fuckwit who "didnt have a clue" about what might be ailing my kids.
Doctors you absolutely SHOULD avoid in Bangkok
Respond...so...I guess a second opinion was out of the question?...
Gonna be getting one soon...! After reading about retraction in breathing... this is getting me quite worried! My poor baby's exhibiting some retraction (hard breathing, can see the 'strain' in his neck). Feck... you learn more from Google than these fuckwit so-called 'doctors'.
I always went to the private hospitals with my son. It cost a bit but the doctors spoke English and were competent.
The closest to me was Nakantorn in the Western outskirts of Bangkok.
hope it's not too bad. Try the Viatanni on Lat phrao, they're excellent with kids. a little more expensive than PT but 100 times better. Vipiavadi is also a good hospital because it's a military hospital.

Sorry (and I know this is going to come across as harsh), but the only person I can find fault with in this scenario is you for not having health insurance for your child.
Apparently the doctor didn't get enough information from you or your child as to what might be causing the vomiting so she wanted to admit him for observation to see if any other symptoms appeared or reappeared. Seems like a sound medical decision to me.
Thailand has some nice defamation laws. The OP might want to reconsider his rant...

He doesn't have health insurance because my wife quite her job and his insurance was tied to hers (which was in turn tied to her job). My second child is insured on my health insurance. But even with insurance, we're still paying shitloads for shit advice.
We don't drive all the way to a private hospital like Pyathai and pay a premium just for the fuckwit doctor to tell us "I don't know." That is just outrageous! ~~MY~~ fault was that I should have been more assertive there -- on the spot, right in that bitch's office. But I was just all worried about my kids (and my second son is particularly sensitive when I start raising my voice). I should have gotten this off my chest then, because as the next guy puts it, this country has nice laws that lets assholes walk away with even more money.
Our usual doctor (who was coming in much later, and I couldn't wait) would at least explain everything in detail. If she didn't know for sure, she'd explain a few possible causes, how they're treated and our OPTIONS like she'd say "Well, you can take him home and that's alright BUT.... or you can admit him so that we can observe him for a day." That's what a well-trained professional would do -- give you details and options, rather than dictating shit, thinking we're the typical mindless idiots that can't Google symptoms on the internet.
But there you go, I'm the idiot for not waiting for our normal doctor. But still -- I'd like to inform everyone here to skip the one in question.

Funny that. Yesterday I called a doctor and complained "My wife's sick" and the doctor asked ME to tell HER what was wrong. Damn they're hopeless!
Well I'm not trying to be offensive here (you know, I really am not trying - it comes naturally...) but I don't go to hospitals that charge like that, and for my first visit I always go to the local clinic. The doctors there are real and generally good and if they need to use anything not in the clinic they'll set you up an appointment at their hospital...
Why do you want to pay huge hospital bills instead of just paying the doctor?
Even more worryingly - why isn't it covered by your health insurance?

Rather atypical specimens. I do hope you informed the doctor that you own a Mac and could never be considered as typical. Strangely I am of the opinion that just about any idiot can Google symptoms on the internet.

It was -- but the hospital "fees" alone take up the bulk of the OPD coverage. You're right -- we should definitely find a good private clinic and just go there. I'm tired of these hospitals fleecing money for equipment which they don't even properly maintain with their "fees".

Why not buy some decent i-nsurance for your family, rather than spending 70K on your next i-toy.

to tell us "I don't know." That is just outrageous!
My wife has a gristly lump in her toe. She had it cut out once because it caused her pain while she was walking. It reoccurs so we went to a new hospital in Minburi, which was one allocated by her cheap ass work insurance. We walked into a brand new A&E, i mean it was spanking new with new machines and everything. The first thing that bothered us was no one was in there. We sat for about 10 min, then i lost patients and went to the front desk to ask where everyone was. Slowly but surely, several nurses started to appear from rooms off the main one, like the room you'd go and see the doctor in after having your name called. They were all adjusting the hair and had clearly been woken from slumber.
When my wife finally saw a doctor she asked the doctor what he thought the lump was. The reply was, "I don't know, what do you think it might be?" We left about 2 seconds after that!
You are right. There are ways a professional should act.

This macbook will be the last Apple product I get for the next 4 years, and is the key to generating enough additional income for my family, thank you.

Ok - that is the one reason I won't argue with paying through the nose for anything.
Six weeks ago I had a comprehensive check up at a 'top' (my fookin arse) hospital in Bangkok. I had previously decided to never consult a Thai doc again but this was a girft from a mate, so I went.
Previously, the same hospital said I had a 'cyst' on my right heptatic lobe in 2010 - no further action reqiured (2010).
However, six weeks ago (2011) they found further lumps / lesions and sent me off to see an expensive 'liver specialist consultant'. I did. He was a cunt. And his explanation ranged from it being a 'new birth mark' (how the fuck do you get a 'new birth mark'? to something more serious regards the 'lumps'.
So, having no faith at all I came back to the NHS and saw my doc - I was refered to a stenographer with 20 years western experience and the findings then reviewed by a consultant. The opinion of all three. The lumps and lesions are lumps or lusions at all, rather, 'Shadows' eminating from behind a vein in the liver. By all accounts, not uncommon.
Nice, cheers doc - Oh and I still shit'em. [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/images/smilies/sad.gif]

...ah...
What's more disturbing to me than the evident unprofessional conduct of your average Thai doctor is the inability of some western educated educators, who frequent a teaching in Thailand website, and therefore should at the very least have a cursory understanding of the workings of the Thai education system, to connect the cause and effect relationship between said doctors and the education system that produced them...
"they should be more professional"...really?...have you ever set foot in a classroom in Thailand?...then where would you suggest this professionalism would come from?...

I've seen some scary incompetence at so called top international hospitals in Bangkok. A friend of mine had a smashed pelvis and an injured arm after a fall on one of the islands. Doctors at Bumrungrad managed to miss a fracture in his arm when they x-rayed him. The fracture was only discovered in Sweden after his insurance company paid to fly him home. If I ever need a serious procedure, I'm flying home to get it done.

Medical service was always a big issue for me vis-a-vis Thailand.
I first realized that things would be problematic when I. on one occassion, went to my "regular" GP for a scheduled visit and found that a bicycle shop had opened up in his former location...
No notes on the window, no nothing.
I was shocked.
I had become close to a nearby pharmacist who was a little surprised by my reactions and told me the guy had been having some "family problems" and headed north.
I was very fortunate to find a really good replacement, more or less quite by chance.

And just as an afterthought here...
Am I right to conclude that the OP wasn't actually naming an actual doctor by name?
because really....that's no different than naming and shaming a school.
Just wondering

A quick check of google reveals that it was a real name; the fourth hit is this page. I've edited it out.

Doctor in the dermatology department in Bangpo hospital about 3 years ago. My son was suffering from little spots on his chin and under his nose basically a virus that will go away by itself or the doctor can remove them and hope they don't come back which is what we learnt from the experienced and professional doctor at the Children's Hospital. The genius at Bangpo hospital had one method though he prescribed a medicine to apply to my son's face which quite clearly stated on the bottle DO NOT APPLY TO FACE. This was the type of stuff you apply to a veruca on your foot.
I just can't trust Thai doctors anymore at this stage every time I have to see one I know I am going to be at the cashier counter asking them to remove all of the extra commission based garbage the doctor is trying to pawn off on me. I think the best one was the time I was given 6 packs of calcium supplements despite there being zero evidence of a calcium deficiency.
There's only one doctor I trust in Bangkok and he's not even Thai what a sad state of affairs.

People may well poo poo the NHS but I dont think you can poopoo the knowledge of your average UK EDEUCATED doc operating within the system.
I went to the doctor when i was in OZ. the guy asked me about my symptoms, entered them into a computer.
Then wrote me a prescription.
The pills worked.
