So confused. I've read too much information/can't find the exact answers.
I am leaving my job at the end of this month. My last working day is the 29th May. My visa extension expires on the 1st June. I intend to leave by land to come back in on a 15 day-er before 1st June.
Do I need to cancel my work permit? Will this automatically be cancelled when I leave the country?
Or.. do I need to cancel my visa? If I cancel my visa will my work permit automatically be cancelled?
Or.. do I need to cancel both my visa and work permit?
Where do I cancel my visa/work permit if I need to do so?

You will have to cancel your work permit which can be done by your employer. If you intend to do it by yourself you may need an approval letter from your employer. To get your visa cancelled you will have to get in touch with the immigration office. I came to know about this from a friend of mine who works with Canadian Immigration Services.
If I cancel my visa at Chaeng Wattana and leave my work permit with my employer to cancel, will I run into problems when I cancel the visa, or leave the country?

If you have a letter from the employer giving you permission to leave the country you don't even need to cancel your visa. The simple act of exiting the country without a re-entry permit will do the same thing.
You will re-enter on a 15-day border stamp.

Flying out is no worry but if you have a work permit and you are crossing by land they sometimes make an issue of it.
Having the letter means not having to make a small donation to their retirement fund.
Wait another day and it is all moot anyway since you are within 24 hours of your visa expiry.
Cancellations not needed.

ok... I am going to be leaving by land. So what you're saying is: I will encounter problems if I cancel my visa and not my work permit and leave via land. but if I just don't bother cancelling the visa or work permit, and get a letter from my employer saying it's ok, I can leave, then no problems at the border.
Or, if I go on a visa run via land on the last day of my visa (31st May), I don't need to do anything or have a letter.

When cancelling the "B" visa at a land border (it will have only one more day of validity when I cancel it), do I have to physically surrender my work permit (or even present it)? I'll be doing a visa run to Laos by land, and the company handling it (the link that tsaphiel gave in this thread) advised me that I need a letter from my employer, spelling out the date of my last day of work, which must match the date at which I'm crossing the border.
I'll leave Thailand one day before my visa and work permit expiration, so it would seem from what you said in that thread that the letter may be redundant in this case, although of course I'm taking no chances and will have it with me [image: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/images/smilies/smile.gif]

I don't know, Fantomas what's best to do. I would go for a clean cut. Cancel the work permit and cancel the extension of stay based on employment at the Immigration Office designated to your area.
