My Kor/Can mate has just been informed he has made the next to final cut in applicants, and must go there soon for an interview.
Here is a portion of what he emailed me:
"...can you post and see if anyone knows anything about UCLA film school? I need to know more about the program(directing/producing) other than what I can find on the internet, how it's different from other film schools or what UCLA film school is specialized for etc.
Some people say UCLA focuses on all-round aspects of making films, some say UCLA concentrates a lot on artistic work, and some say UCLA focuses a lot on documentaries as well as artistic work..."
We'll both be researching, but some insider experience, opinions are always useful.

My ex-gf did her MA at the School of Cinema & Television at USC, just across the street from UCLA. In "the biz" the USC program is considered top of the heap. It was started by Robert Zemecke (sp?) and Stephen Spielberg. It gets a lot of support from actors & producers in the biz. For example, my ex mentored under the guy who wrote Raging Bull.
Anyways, I know your q is about the UCLA program and I'm pretty sure my ex will know a fair bit about it. I'd be happy to put her in touch with your mate if he's interested. Let me know.

Yes, I know that school quite well. Took a tour of the campus and the film school at USC. The price is much more than UCLA, but it's private and much more prized. My cousin went to USC and was lead marcher (swordsman) in the USC football marching band. Retired his sword there and still goes to football games with his parents and his marching mate friends from the instrumental band.

There are three big film schools in the LA area; UCLA, USC and Cal State Fullerton. CSF would be the cheapest of the three but is fast developing a very strong rep in the biz. I taught broadcast performance there, briefly. The information other posters have laid about the other two is pretty spot on, in my opinion.
