Why is USB-C necessary when the previous USB was adequate to accomplish everyday tasks?

Why did the technology world feel the need to introduce USB-C when the previous USB connectors already seemed capable of handling everyday tasks? If older USB ports could charge devices, transfer files, and connect peripherals just fine, what problem was USB-C really trying to solve? And how much of this transition was driven by genuine technological necessity versus industry standardization and long-term compatibility? When you look at the evolution of ports and cables, was USB-C inevitable? What do you think? 🤔
